Happy Truth Tuesday Yall! If you’ve read the title or you came here due to my IG or FB post then you know…I’M PREGNANT WITH TWINS! I’d love to share my journey with you. I know you have plenty of questions, and I’ll be more than happy to answer them.
- I’m 21 weeks (I’ll be 22 weeks on Thursday)
- Due Date: 10/24/2019 – but since they’re twins it got changed to 10/03/2019
- They are both girls, and their names are Harper and Dylan (don’t ask me about their last name)
- Yes, twins run in my family
Now let’s talk about how we got here. Anthony and I decided to start trying in February, but one January night I thought what the heck let’s start now. I said I heard it takes a good 6 months to a year. Well my friends, we got the girls on our first try. It is not lost on me how much of a blessing it is that we conceived so quickly because there are so many others that have trouble.
On Valentine’s Day, I was headed to work and decided to stop at Walgreens to get a pregnancy test because I was a week late, and I’ve never been late in my life. I drove back home, and those pink lines popped up quickly. It was torture not being able to tell Anthony the whole day because this was something I definitely wanted to tell him in person. When he got home from work, I told him I planned a scavenger hunt for Vday, but when he opened the card it was a quick poem telling him that we were going to be parents.
A month later I had my first doctor’s appointment. I was talking and laughing with the ultrasound tech and then she stopped. I asked if everything was okay, and she said yes, THEY are fine. I thought this has to be a joke they tell everyone in order to get their reaction. She moved the screened over to let me see two little babies. My first words were, I’m so happy my husband just started a new job.
It’s been a journey my friends! The first trimester was a bit rough. I was sick a lot and I also had food poisoning right after we found out. During that time, I slept more than I’ve ever slept in my life. Anthony is the napper of the family, but all this sleep is very weird to me. The second trimester has been a lot better. Besides my growing stomach, I feel like my normal self for the most part.
In January I walked into my therapist office and said I need to spend 30 minutes on my mom and 30 minutes on my dad. I did this because I wanted to work on any baggage that I had with them to clear space for my own children to come. Last week, my Truth Tuesday was about abandonment and “Dan” is my dad. Because I’ve done my work, my girls won’t have to go through what I did. They will have their dad with them every step of the way.
Anthony has no siblings and comes from a very small family so he’s over the moon to start a family of our own! A couple of years ago I went through a phase where I didn’t want children, but through it all he still wanted us to have a child. He has done so much work during my pregnancy. He has spreadsheets galore and makes sure we’re on track for everything. It brings me so much joy to know Harper and Dylan will never understand the pain I felt growing up.
The girls are already displaying different personalities. Each of them takes after one of us. Harper (Baby A) is very calm and she goes with the flow during the ultrasounds. Dylan (Baby B) is all over the place. We’ve had a difficult time getting good pictures of Harper because Dylan is always putting on a show. Last week she was lying on poor Harper during the ultrasound. Anthony said him and Harper will have alone time so that me and Dylan can be loud and tear up the house.
Now that yall know I’m expecting, I plan to share more with you. I just ask for your respect during this time. I’ve had a few people that I told prior and they weren’t respectful of the boundaries I set. If I feel comfortable talking about a subject then I’ll share freely. If you ask and I don’t want to talk about it, then respect my boundaries and we’ll be just fine on this ride together.
Until next time loves…
