If you haven’t noticed by now I’m totally enamored with John Mayer. His lyrics are so thought provoking. I recently wrote on Truth Tuesday about his song “Daughters” and how it discusses generational curses. Heavier Things is an album packed with so many emotional and thought provoking songs. It’s the album that made me a fan, and it’s the album I go back to when I feel life is treating me unkindly. On this week’s Truth Tuesday I’m going to talk about the song “Wheel”. It’s the last track on the album, and it’s the perfect way to end an album titled Heavier Things, because my friends, the song is heavy.

Recently, this song has meant a lot to me. I’m going through a transitional phase in life. Things and people are coming and going and some times it’s a little too much for me to handle. I’m a Libra and my Zodiac sign is a scale, because I, just like other Libras require BALANCE! I don’t like to live in the grey. I like to know where I stand with people and in situations. I also require balance in interactions. It’s no secret I LOVE ANTHONY! He’s literally my favorite person, but I can’t do life with just him. That’s not a balanced life. I need family and friends in my corner to help me thrive and tackle life.

Last week, I had a conversation with my favorite cousin, and from the conversation I immediately thought of the song “Wheel”. My favorite line of the song is, “you can’t love too much one part of it”. Being a Libra means I’m loyal, and if given the chance us Libras will love too much one part of something or someone. We see the potential in others that they don’t see in themselves. What that line in the song says to me is life is just like a wheel and it’s constantly moving. You can’t love one part too much, because you’ll miss out on something great. Yall want to know a truth? I’m loyal to a fault. Sometimes I focus on other’s needs or wants before mine. So, I have to keep in mind NOT to love too much one part of it. No one or anything is worth loving more than yourself.

Another thing John told me in this song is “people have the right to fly, and they will when it gets compromised”. I see that from two sides. First, if you ever feel compromised in a situation it’s perfectly fine to protect yourself and GO. Secondly, you might do something to someone and they feel compromised and you must find a way to be okay if they decide to GO. Remember “you won’t be the last to love them”. Yep, Uncle John told me that too! As a Libra, I’m diplomatic and a logical problem solver so naturally I don’t like to flee or have others flee. I like to talk it out (ask Anthony lol), but John has never steered me wrong, so I must be okay with the transition of the wheel and know that I won’t be the last (or only) to love someone or something.

Towards the end of the song Uncle John drops a BOMB on us! He says, “and if you never stop when you wave goodbye, you just might find if you give it time you will wave hello again. You just might wave hello again.” READ THAT AGAIN…LET IT SINK IN!!! Remember that the things, situations or people we struggle to let go of will come back around if we KEEP MOVING and continue to live life. Let me make myself clear, when God, The Universe or The Wheel removes something from your life be grateful and know that it was for a reason. What Uncle John is telling us is that if you keep evolving those types of feelings and vibes will come back to us. They will be delivered in a different vessel this time, but they will give us the same feels we were missing/lacking.

The song closes out with Uncle John giving us one more gem to take home. “I believe that my life’s gonna see the LOVE I give return to me”. After all is said and done if you do good and are good to others, trust me, it will eventually come back to you. That doesn’t mean The Wheel won’t grant you a few weird unbalanced transitional phases (ask me how I know), but it does mean if you can get through them the love you give will return to you.

No matter what phase of life you’re going through, remember to NEVER love too much one part of it, because life is just like a wheel it keeps on moving!

Until next time loves…
