If you know me even just a little bit, you know I believe we were all put here for a reason. My reason is to change the world. I learned years ago that changing the world doesn’t have to involve some huge feat. It comes in many shapes and sizes. I’m the queen of random acts of kindness. I’ll Paypal or Cash App someone money randomly and tell them to have lunch on me. I’m always trying to find ways to spread love to the world via good deeds. This Truth Tuesday I want to talk to you about my birthday project for this year.
For the past four years I’ve had SNS BDAY GOOD DEED! Listen, that name sucks but back in 2014 that’s what I came up with, and I didn’t want to change it. On days when I’m feeling down I search that hashtag on FB and IG (#SNSBDAYGOODDEED) and it totally lifts my spirits. For those of you that don’t know about it, let me give you a quick recap. It started out with me sending 20 people $5 each and assigning them a date between Oct 1st-20th. On their day they were responsible for using the $5 to do a good deed. They would report their good deed to me and most people shared on social media. (The first year had 20 participants, years 2-4 had about 35-40 each.) On Oct 21st (my birthday) I donate money to a charity/organization that’s near and dear to me. I also go to the hospital and give the nurses a letter with money to give to a family that has a child born on my birthday.
This year I’m switching it up! I’ve been totally inspired by Colin Kaepernick and his million dollar pledge. Watching him be so selfless this past year has been such an inspiration to me. For the homestretch of his pledge he did a 10 for 10 challenge. He challenged 10 people to donate $10,000 to a worthy organization/cause, and he matched each of their donations. This year for my birthday, I’m following in Colin’s footsteps and doing my own 10 For 10. From February to October I’m challenging 10 people to donate $100 to a worthy organization/cause and I will match your $100. My awesome husband has already taken this month and will be donating $100 to St Jude, and in turn I’ll be matching his $100 to St Jude.
I need 9 more of you to take a month between March and October to donate $100. Since October is my birthday month, I need two of you to donate that month so we can have a collective total of $2000! ($1000 from me and $1000 from yall…remember, I’m southern) If you’re interested in being part of #Sheena10For10 or want more information, shoot me an email at Sheena@loveatanystage.com. Don’t forget to spread the word by sharing this blog post or my social media video.
Until next time loves…
This is such a great thing that you’re doing! I love the concept and how it all started.
Thanks so much!
What an amazing idea! This would be a great activity for a group of friends.
Yes, it is!
What a great idea! Love the concept and consideration for others.
Thanks!!!
I love the idea of you being so giving. I have sought out donations for my school and I became frustrated and angry that my friends would give not $5.00 to my charity. One day, it hot me that I did not give to other friend’s fundraisers online. I said I was going to start giving $5.00 to friends charities first.
I definitely understand your frustration. It happens to me a lot.
This is a fabulous idea. Kudos to you for having such a giving spirit.
I am so happy you are making philanthropic moves. I hope you get you donation volunteers goals met and even get more!
I love this!!! I especially love sending people things randomly as a lunch on you!! Love your spirit!!!
Thanks so much!!!
I love your SNS BDAY GOOD DEED name and concept! It is so awesome being a blessing to others!
Thanks
I love this! What a great idea! Blessing others.
Thanks!!!
What a worthy effort. I think more people should be inspired by Colin’s efforts instead of criticizing him.
I agree!
I think this is so dope. I’ve recently stepped up my philanthropy game and even joined a giving circle of black female philanthropists in Dallas. I commend you on this effort and hope you reach your goal!!
I’d love to hear about the giving circle
This is such an awesome idea! I love spreading acts of kindness to people, and sharing good deeds.
Thanks!
This is awesome. St. Jude has a warm place in my heart because they help a lot of children living with sickle cell anemia. Having a daughter with the genetic disorder is disheartening, but everyday we are fighting for her to have a better life.
Keep on fighting!!! Thanks for reading and prayers to your family.
What an incredible thing to do for your birthday! Giving back is so important!
This is a great way to celebrate your birthday by giving to someone else. I really respect Kaepernick and what he is doing for the community.
He’s doing great things for the community!
